The Beginning...

Hey There Friends!!!

You may be wondering what is the purpose of this blog? Well, it is to give you a quick look into my life as of now and for the near future. It is to keep you posted about all that will be happening with me in Benin? What’s Benin you ask? Well…keep reading! As you may already know I have recently finished my Biology degree program at Trinity Western University. I am very excited about the plans God has for me now. As of now I am applying to several schools all over the world in the attempt to be accepted into a midwifery program. The Lord has called me to be a servant and I am very excited to someday be trained to serve others in the process of bringing new life, new hope and new light into the world. As of now, God has led it on my heart to use my servants heart in another way. God willingly I hope to be going on a missions trip to Benin, West Africa with an organization called DRIME.

Who or what is DRIME? DRIME is a Vancouver-based ministry that stands for “Disciples Ready In Mobile Evangelism.” Its mission is to reach lost people for Christ through choreographed street drama, empower others for ministry through drama and evangelism training, and produce passionate, discipled leaders through purposed community. DRIME actively spreads the good news through dramas on the streets of downtown Vancouver and is one of the many ministries grouped under the Power to Change organization (previously Campus Crusade for Christ). If you would like to know more about DRIME, check out their website at www.drime.com.

While in Benin, I will also have the opportunity to work with GAiN (Global Aid Network), another I ministry that is part of Power to Change. GAiN demonstrates the love of God through relief and development projects throughout the world. This ministry has done lots of work in Benin helping to build water wells. Although DRIME is the organization I am affiliated with, some time would be spent serving along side GAiN on this trip. If you would like to know more about the Global Aid Network feel free to look them up online at http://www.globalaid.net/projects/water-benin/.

You may also be wondering where is Benin? Benin is a country found in West Africa and it borders both Togo and Nigeria. This country is a French speaking nation and is also the birthplace of voodoo (the country’s national religion). It is a country with a population of around 7.4 million people, many in desperate need of knowing Christ.

This brings me to the What of this trip. What will I be doing in Benin? The main reason for this trip is to help to multiply the DRIME ministry through planting a base to equip local Christians with the tools they will need to run a self-sufficiently. Ultimately, they will be able to run a weekly ministry and workshops for their own people. We will discern and choose leaders with a passion to share Christ with their people and then train them in being able to use DRIME as a working tool to minister. The goal of our trip is to leave Benin left with a well equipped DRIME base with leaders and members all with a passion to reach the lost of their nation. This opportunity for DRIME to minister to the people of Benin would not only be a light in a dark culture but a way of helping more people to become a light for their own people. It is so exciting to think about all that God can and will do in Benin.

Another question that may have arisen may be why have I chosen to go on this trip to Benin? Well I remember my last semester of classes it began to hit me, once I am finished school there is a world out there waiting for me! Now this was not something I decided to do just because school was over. After four and a half years of university at a Christian school I have been shown that no matter who you are and what your skills are, God can use you. I have however not really had the opportunity to allow God to work in me. University has helped prepare me to serve my Lord in a way that allows me to have a future filled with a career and stability. I have however learned that this world is not my home, but my home is with my God and that one day all that I obtain will not matter, instead all I have done in His name will. One reason for this trip is that God is telling me that to live for Him I need to make Him the center and reason for my life. I desire to make Him my all, so that when I go on and study midwifery I am doing it for Him and not for myself. I know that I am able to serve God fully here in my home, but the second reason I believe that this is the trip I am to go on is that God has called me and has set the path for me even before I chose to go. When DRIME asked me to come, I ignored the invitation, but God kept bringing it back to my attention. Every time I brushed it aside because of one reason or another God would bring it back with a solution to my problem. After much prayers I realized that this was Gods desire for me, not my own. The motto of the Power to Change organization is to help people discover and develop a relationship with Christ, help those who believe in Christ to experience the power of the Holy Spirit as they grow in their relationship and then to inspire people to go out and mobilize others in the power of the Holy Spirit to help many discover Jesus Christ. I discover Christ thanks to God blessing me with God fearing parents, through my many years of youth group and then university I have experienced the Holy Spirit as I grew in relationship with my Jesus, now God is leading me to help inspire others to start this cycle again.

As you can see, this is a big task at hand and I know that it can not be accomplished without partnership and help from others. My question for you then is will you partner with me? Although I will be the one in Benin, there is so much you can do to be a part of this ministry.

1) Pray. As I mentioned Benin is the birthplace of voodoo. We all need prayer that God would be our protector, but also our strength. I need prayer that I will be focused on God and that I will open myself to allow Him to work through me. We all need lots of prayer for safety in a land we are all unfamiliar with and that God will give us courage to step past any of our fears. Lastly, prayer that each of us will be able to raise the money needed on this trip.

2) Financial Support. This trip will have me living in Benin for two months but in order to do so I must raise about $4500. Although it is not cheap, I am trusting God that He will provide. If you at all feel led to give, your donations would be greatly appreciated and such a blessing.

3) Referral. I believe that we are all brothers and sisters in Christ and that I need as much support as possible. It says in Matthew 18:20 “For where two or three are gathered together in My name, I am there in the midst of them.” It helps to show that alone this task is great, but with more and more support the load is much less and Christ is more present. If there is any one you can think of referring me to, please do so as I would love to share my heart for this ministry in Benin with them.

Do you have more Questions? Please feel free to come and talk to me, or if need be email me (tdb_abby@hotmail.com), write me, Facebook me or phone me.

I Hope to hear from you soon! God Bless!!
